Board and Committees Schola Cantorum is run by a Board of Directors, elected to three-year terms at the annual retreat (see Rehearsal Requirements). Current Board members and their contact information are listed on the first page of this Handbook. The Artistic Director is an “ex officio” Board member. The Board meets regularly, usually every six weeks, to discuss and oversee every aspect of the Schola’s operations, including but not limited to: selection of concert themes and music in conjunction with the Artistic Director; negotiation of performance venues; program enhancement; concert production; fundraising and other financial management concerns; membership recruitment; publicity; social activities; chorus policies; website maintenance. No one involved with Schola Cantorum is salaried. The Artistic Director is engaged on a fee-for-service basis, as are occasional guest soloists, instrumentalists and other professionals associated with specific events. Because Schola is a non-profit organization, dues, ticket sales and grants make up the bulk of the chorus’ operating funds. Members and community patrons donate time and services to fulfill the many responsibilities required to keep the chorus in existence. The Board also may establish committees to assist with key activities, such as audience development, fundraising and strategic planning. |
